Indeed, explosive power is among the greatest factors that set off one athlete from the others. Speed, agility, and quickness are the three qualities that make up explosive power. Many training programs these days include speed, agility, and quickness exercises as part of the modules that athletes must learn to master.

It is true that not all athletes are born to be quick. However, just because an athlete was not born as one does not mean he cannot become one. An athlete who is not gifted with quickness and agility can eventually make considerable changes through agility and quickness exercises to become quick and agile.
These exercises and improvements are not only limited to those who lack such abilities. Athletes who are already quick and agile can go to the next level and further enhance their skills through explosive power programs.
One of the main goals of speed, agility, and quickness exercises is to improve the performance of athletes. Another goal is to lessen the chances of injury. It is somewhat frustrating though that not all explosive power programs are able to accomplish these goals, especially the older and more traditional ones. Therefore, it is important that you choose an explosive power program that is up to date. It must also cover all the areas involved in sharpening one’s speed, agility, and quickness.
A good explosive power program must be able to cover the three plains of motion (sagital, frontal, and transverse) and three muscle actions (concentric, isometric, and eccentric). Many sports require athletes to be able to move explosively in all three directions, as well as to powerfully and quickly accelerate, decelerate, and stabilize. Traditional speed, agility, and quickness exercises only focus on a certain area of motion and muscle action that often leads to the failure in achieving the training program goals.
